As part of International Womens Day, here at Andromeda Artisans we’d like to focus on some of the very exciting work our Artisan, Kate O’ Callaghan has been doing and will be doing over the coming weeks.

Kate is set to have a busy month, as it has just been announced that she will be performing on Easter Monday (28th March) in Dublin as part of RTÉ’s Reflecting the Rising event to commemorate the 1916 Rising.  She will be performing songs from her 1916 inspired EP due for release later this year.  This event is set to be ‘the biggest public history event that has ever been stages in this country.’  – RTE

Kate has also just taken part in the Women’s Work Festival in Belfast this month. The show entitled ‘Where do you go My Love’ took place in The Black Box Cafe on Sunday, March 6th. Kate was accompanied by many other talented female musicians, writers and poets. The night was deemed a huge success. One of the organisers, Roisin Whyte took to Facebook to thank all the women who took part, adding ‘You, together with a warm, generous audience created a space where lovely things could and did happen.’

She will be accompanying Duke Special throughout March on his ‘Piano & Pages’ tour on the following dates:

  • Thursday March 17 – Downpatrick, Down Arts Centre
  • Friday March 18 – Portlaoise, Kavanagh’s
  • Saturday March 19 – Kilkenny, Cleere’s Theatre
  • Sunday March 20 – Mullingar, The Fence

This is not the first time Kate and Duke Special have teamed up in the name of music.   Duke-Special-25They have in fact performed together on numerous occasions as part of a collaboration with the Inishowen Gospel Choir,  performing live on stage with Duke Special at an Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny in 2007, on The Late Late show, throughout HMV stores in Dublin and Belfast and at the Dublin Fringe Festival as part of ‘The Silhouette Old Time Mystery Radio Show’ in 2008.
